Judges have it hard. No matter how they score any competition, they are bound to piss off many performers and fans every time they decide on a score. Often, they are accused of favoritism (Car and Driver magazine when evaluating BMWs), bribery (the infamous ice skating judges in the 2002 Winter Olympics) or downright incompetence (all ‘American Idol’ judges).
But even if the ‘American Idol’ judges can’t tell the difference between male and female better than they can separate real talent from crap, it is important to remember the judges’ purpose on the internationally successful show.
