A Sensual Tango of the Dances
A burst of rich notes filled the Irvine Barclay Theatre as Esteban Riera strutted onto stage. His sultry yet vibrant voice aroused a passionate atmosphere one can only attribute to Buenos Aires. Once he sent the audience reeling into the soul of Argentina, Riera stepped aside for Julio Bocca, American Ballet Theater principal dancer and director of Ballet Argentino. Coupled with Lucas Oliva, the proceeding tango further transported the audience into the world of Argentine dance.
Boccatango showcased a variety of talented artists, never presenting a dull moment. The instrumental ensemble Octango, conducted by Julian Vat, contributed its vibrant and emotional melodies to the diverse program of dance styles.
