California Risks Trivializing Gay History

Comparatively speaking, it’s good to be gay in California. For instance, last year’s bill approving gay marriage passed in the state legislature and didn’t get scrapped by the lack of blue-blooded liberals in Sacramento; it was Gov. Schwarzenneger’s ambiguously red veto pen that did it.
Not to be deterred, two weeks ago the California Senate made what it believed is another move toward greater social equality, passing a law that would require California textbooks to include mentions of homosexual figures who have made significant historical contributions to the United States:
