R&B, Jazz, Gospel at Grama
Irvine is not known as a center of hip-hop or Latin music, but on Sept. 30, the Bill Barber Memorial Park behind Irvine City Hall exploded with gospel, Latin, folk, smooth jazz, R&B and even hip-hop choreography at Gramafest 2006, hosted by The Gift of Joy Foundation, which aids single working parents in need.
Well, maybe ‘exploded’ is a bit strong. Although the festival was admirably diverse in its musical content, early crowds such as the one for the opening act, Christ Our Redeemer Gospel Choir, merely matched the number of singers on stage.
