International Village Opens in AV
As the centerpiece of the multicultural celebration of UC Irvine’s International Education Week, last Wednesday’s grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed home the first residents of Arroyo Vista’s newest theme housing community, International Village.
William Zeller, assistant vice chancellor of student housing, addressed the residents: ‘The Senate designated this year as the Year of Study Abroad. A record 200,000 U.S. students have studied abroad this year … and this may continue as a trend.’
The International Village housing community is composed of 40 percent international students and 60 percent American students, many of whom have been roommates since September.
‘It provides a great opportunity for international students to interact with American culture and for American students to interact with a wide variety of different cultures,’ Zeller said.
Many of the residents agreed.
