Santiago Fires Caused by Arson

As of Sunday, Oct. 28, the Irvine fires have been 50 percent contained and the estimated cost of damages is $6.5 million, according to the Santiago Information Line Web site. The fires, which originated last Sunday, Oct. 21 at 5:55 p.m. in Santiago Canyon and Silverado Canyon, have been moving east and north, burning on ‘extremely heavy fuels’ in the Cleveland National Forest. Since last Sunday, the flames consumed 27,900 acres, burning through Hicks Canyon and threatening Modjeska, Silverado and Lost Woman Canyons.
