Women’s Basketball Take Down Lions On the Road, 65-62
The UCI women’s basketball team (1-2) picked up their first win of the early 2009-10 season. The Lady Anteaters defeated Loyola Marymount 65-62 at Gersyen Pavilion last Friday.
Three Anteaters scored in double figures led by senior guard Rebecca Maessen’s 17 points. Keyonna Johnson dropped 12 points, tying her career high. Junior guard Jade Smith-Williams chipped in 10 points and added five assists.
Men’s Water Polo Falls to USC, Playoffs Up Next
The UC Irvine Men’s water polo team was handed a 15-9 loss by the number one team in the nation, USC. The seventh ranked Anteaters dropped their fifth Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game of the year compared to only three wins. Their overall record stands at 15-11. The Trojans are a remarkable 22-1.
The MPSF Tournament, hosted by USC, is scheduled for this Friday through Sunday. UCI, the sixth seed, will face No. 3 California in a quarterfinal game at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
