Colleen Lillig Wins Big West Freshman of the Year for Cross Country

As the first freshman to cross the finish line at the Big West Championship, hosted by UC Riverside on Oct. 30, Colleen Lillig registered a time of 21:29.5 in the 6,000-meter race. Lillig’s performance placed was the fastest finish any freshman Anteater had ever run on that course. Placing 23rd overall, Lillig’s performance helped secure her standing as the Big West Freshman of the Year in women’s cross-country.

Women’s Volleyball Beats UC Riverside, Halts Losing Streak at Seven

The Lady Anteaters won just their sixth match of the year on Nov. 6, defeating the 2-26 UC Riverside Highlanders, 3-1. Taking the first set, 25-19, Irvine registered 17 kills, capped off by senior Larissa Nordyke’s kill. Riverside bounced back in the second set, reversing course on the ’Eaters, 25-19.

UCI then secured wins in the third and fourth sets, 25-20 and 25-14 respectively. Sophomore Kristen Winkler was the match leader with 17 digs, while senior Kari Pestolesi notched 14 kills and freshman Mary Carls totaled 37 assists in the contest.

The Lady Anteaters travel to Fullerton to take on the Titans on Nov. 12 and return home to face Cal State Northridge on Nov. 13.
