Lady Anteaters Split Northern California Match-ups
The Lady Anteaters lost to UC Davis 83-67 on Feb. 26, two days after defeating Pacific, 69-58.
Against the Aggies, Irvine was led by freshman forward Jacquelyn Marshall’s career-high 19 points. Senior guard Jade Smith-Williams scored 14 points, swiped three steals and dished out three assists. Sophomore Jazmyne White came one rebound short of a double-double, with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Davis drained 11 from beyond the arc en route to their 16-point defeat of UCI.
In the team’s defeat of Pacific, their shooting percentages were off the charts. UCI nailed 7-12 from the 3-point range, 22-27 from the free-throw line and shot 40 percent from the field.
Smith-Williams had 18 points and she was a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe. Senior center Kim Barnes had a season-high 11 points while White added nine points, four rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals.
The women’s basketball team now stands at 15-12, 7-8 in the Big West.
Women’s Tennis Loses Big West Opener
UC Irvine’s women’s tennis team lost 5-2 to UC Davis on Feb. 21. Junior Courtney Brown and sophomore Kristina Smith won the No. 2 doubles match 8-2 for the Anteaters’ lone doubles win. Freshman Franziska Goettsching scored the only singles point of the match for the Anteaters when her opponent retired due to an injury.
