Water Polo beats Pacific, loses to Cal
On Saturday, eighth-ranked UC Irvine battled to a 10-9 victory against seventh-ranked University of Pacific thanks to a hat trick from Jacob Mourer. The Anteaters managed to lead 7-5 in the first half, but Pacific caught up in the third period after Daniel Lungu scored two goals to tie the game. Pacific then scored again to lead 8-7 but UCI fought back in the end of the third period and scored two goals to lead 9-8. Both teams scored a goal apiece in the final period, resulting in a 10-9 victory for UCI.
UCI then got thrashed by the UC Berkeley Golden Bears 14-6 on Sunday evening. Although UCI’s Mitch Wise opened up the game with a goal, Cal answered back with four goals to lead 4-1 in the first period. The Golden Bears continued with their dominance as they routed UCI 4-2 to lead 8-3 by the half. UCI never came close throughout the rest of the match. UCI is now 1-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and 13-9 overall. They will play their next game at home on Thursday against Long Beach State.
