Major Leaguer Stoked for Alumni Game

Miami Marlins outfielder and UC Irvine alumnus, Bryan Peterson, will return to Cicerone Field on Feb. 4 and suit up to face the 2012 Anteaters. As part of the annual Alumni Weekend, the alumni will face the current squad in a seven-inning game, starting at noon on Saturday.

“It’s fun to see everybody, hang out, and reminisce about those college days you just don’t get anymore,” Peterson said. “It’s a good weekend to kind of just hang out again. I miss the tightness of the group. In pro ball you have wives, children, girlfriends; players are calling home all the time. In college, you do everything together and I miss that camaraderie.”

Nowell Leads Irvine in Indoor Track Opener

Junior Ericka Nowell placed third on Jan. 21 in UC Irvine’s women’s indoor track and field team’s first competition of the year at the Bronco Invitational in Nampa, Idaho. Nowell also ran the second leg for the Anteaters’ 4×400 meter relay team that finished in fourth place. Irvine is scheduled to compete in the Lobo Invitational on Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
