Outdoor Track and Field

At the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, junior Lacey Surak and sophomore Itos Aikhionbare completed their memorable 2013 campaigns. Surak, who was the Big West Conference champion in the javelin throw, also recorded a mark of 149-2 at the Beach Invitational on April 20 to put her in the No. 2 spot in the UC Irvine record books. In Texas, Surak threw for a 148-0 mark in the same event, but did not advance beyond the prelims.

With a 35th overall mark, Aikhionbare threw 49-4 1/4 in the shot put. This season, the sophomore set the Irvine record at the Beach Invitational in April in the discus throw with a mark of 169-5.  Aikhionbare also comes in at second place in school history with a mark of 51-5 in the shot put set on May 4 at the Oxy Invitational

Women’s Tennis

After the historic 2013 season, the Anteaters took their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory over San Jose State in a 4-2 victory.

Kristina Smith continued onto the individual’s singles tournament as the first ’Eater to compete since 2010 in the event.
